Our client is a leading food processor and distributor of egg products, refrigerated grocery and potato products.  Their customers’ wants and needs serve as a foundation for all they do.  They have become a leader in the food industry by introducing innovative, value-added food technology and customer solutions.  They currently have a new opportunity for a Specification Manager at their location in the Midwest.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a Research and Development leadership position interfacing with regulatory, food safety, operations and legal functions across the Company.  Ensures the consistency, quality and food safety of all products via the leadership of the specifications processes. The incumbent manages specification requirements for R&D, Quality and Operations; maintaining standardized format and content.,  Manages data integrity, processes, policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Defines and maintains policies and procedures with regard to recipes and raw material, packaging, manufacturing and finished product specifications.
• Oversees development of final specification based on detailed information provided from product developers.  Ensures all specifications are developed for all products.
• Owns the creation, modification and implementation of recipes and specifications within the systems in a timely manner.
• Responsible for systems and data management related to recipe, specifications and reports.
• Tracks workflow status of all documents through the PLM process. Follows document control processes. Oversees the change processes.
• Consults with regulatory, food safety, operations and legal functions, as needed, to assure document data is conforming to necessary standards.
• Continuously improves specification documentation and related processes across the Company; consulting with QA and other cross-functional partners.
• Manages and supervises specification team.
• Provides training and support for specification document management as needed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Bachelor’s Degree and at least 10 years of experience in Research and Development, Quality Assurance or Regulatory Compliance; or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• Strong experience in project management and prioritization of work to assure business needs are met in an ever-changing environment.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience managing specification teams and processes.
• Experience directly managing people; including hiring, developing, mentoring and directing people in the work place.
• Excellent systems knowledge within SAP or other specification systems.
• Willing to travel 10% of the time for business needs within the US.
• Highly organized, with an ability to work under tight deadlines and with little direction.
• Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities.
• Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
