Our client is seeking a plant manager to join their 30,000 sq foot specialty potato and appetizer manufacturing operation in Idaho. Although a smaller facility, their capabilities and certifications are quite extensive. Ideally, this candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of plant management experience and will be able to manage all aspects of a food processing production facility to safely ensure the delivery of quality products in a timely and cost-effective manner. The plant manager is responsible for maintaining and improving operational efficiencies as well as adherence with all regulatory, governmental and food industry standards for quality and accountability.

Specific Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Plan, organize and optimize day-to-day operations to exceed customers’ expectations and deliver key metrics
  • Responsible for managing the following departments:

o Production
o Maintenance & Engineering
o Warehouse – Shipping & Receiving
o Support and collaboration with Quality & Sanitation Department

  • Achieve continuous improvement of operational efficiencies to facilitate the on-time production of quality products.
  • Implement programs to minimize downtime, set up time and changeover time.
  • Manage scheduling activities to optimize plant throughput and efficiencies.
  • Periodic training of all personnel to ensure safe and effective practices are followed
  • Execute and monitor the facility performance to achieve targeted budgets
  • Help to create and evaluate performances to facility KPIs
  • Develop and ensure the implementation of required SOPs to drive the business
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions, as needed
  • Work collaboratively with other corporate resources
  • Increase asset utilization and reduce waste while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining quality standards
  • Allocate resources effectively and utilize all assets to produce optimal results of major projects in the plant, such as expansion, installation of equipment and layout changes
  • Establish a culture of employees’ safety through role modeling and adherence to high standards
  • Investigate and provide recommendations on ways to minimize product loss.
  • Assist in establishing and implementing departmental policies, goals, objectives and procedures.
  • Track and report up on production and safety metrics.
  • Collaboratively working with the QA dept. to improve process
  • Ensure that all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to workplace safety are adhered to, such as OSHA, Fire Systems, EPA / DEQ Annual Filings, etc.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in driving employee performance and results.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in food manufacturing, production and management.
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve problems under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written skills.
  • Proficient in Google or Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong electrical background and experience in troubleshooting equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop cost and quality metrics to drive improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, guide, organize people and fire them as required.
  • General knowledge of major operational utility components such as Boilers, Refrigeration, Heat exchanger, hydraulics and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience in HACCP, BRC, Kosher and Organic standards, and systems theory.
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is in consistent with Company standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. {Preferred}
  • Experience: 4 years, or equivalent, of senior operations management.
  • Ideally experience with ERP systems and processes

Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and be able to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to handle various levels of stress.

This is a very “hands on management position” with continuous interaction with all operational and mechanical associates, not an office job.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, cold and wet environments. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to high.
