Our client Company blends and distributes starch and fiber-based specialty products for manufacturers of food, nutritional, pharmaceutical and industrial products.  It also produces functional blends for bakery, tortilla and dairy applications and unique functional starches for laundry, adhesive and other specialty industrial applications.  Company is a holding company with multiple operating subsidiaries. They currently have an opening for a Director of Technical Services.

1. Position Responsibilities

This position is responsible for all activities related to Research, Innovation and Product Development with focus on Dairy, cheese anticaking agents and Plant based products. The position provides leadership for company wide research and development programs and activities, including laboratory, product development, field technical service, and problem-solving support while promoting quality achievement and performance improvement across the organization.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, guide, and mentor R&D teams to achieve company growth in the areas, including specifically anticaking agents and transformative plant-based foods and technologies.
  • Ensure business goals, customer requirements, and production plans are achieved.
  • Provide oversight, planning, and key input to critical disciplines such as ingredient technologies, product development, process development, equipment design, R&D strategy, and intellectual property.
  • Maximize productivity and manufacturing efficiencies through continuous improvement efforts.
  • Oversee the development, execution, and annual updating of the company’s R&D plans.
  • Contribute to the strategic business alliances established by the company through effective interaction with sales, supply chain, marketing, operations, customers, partners, and vendors to develop expanded business opportunities.
  • Optimize formulations and ingredient qualifications, while supporting the sales and operations teams.
  • Support the Safety culture and attend all training required by the company.
  • Other duties as assigned.

3. Required Qualifications, Skills and Motivations

  • PhD in Food, Technical, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of broad, technical experience; 5 years being specific to product research and development with experience in dairy food products.
  • A minimum of 5 years managing technical personnel and complex activities; 2 years being specific to R&D management.
  • Ability to work independently and as a cross-functional team leader who is self-motivated, approachable and personable.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, proficient in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge of computer skills and standard office equipment.
