The Principal Scientist, Enzymes plays a key role in delivering Food Technology and Application projects that contribute to our clients growth.  This role reports to the Director, Technology and Functional Blends and is based in the  Kansas office.  As Principal Scientist, you will serve as the enzyme subject matter expert (overall properties, safety, and shelf life of food applications) for projects and contribute to the Technology and Functional Blends team. Partners with internal stakeholders as well as suppliers and customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Subject Matter Expert in the design and execution of the Functional Blends Strategy with focus on enzyme technology for the baking industry, in line with the Business Strategy and Innovation Roadmap of our clients Sustainable Food Solutions.
  • Be a key player in translating the Business Strategy into the Technology Roadmap, and its execution. Drive the research and exploration of new technologies and enzyme solutions and the improvement of the existing ones to be implemented in existing and new applications that create profitable growth for our client.
  • Build our clients enzyme biochemical analysis and research capabilities.
  • Lead & develop projects driven by enzyme technology, both innovation and customer related.
  • Build, strengthen, and safeguard the technology expertise and competences of the R&D team. Contribute to a culture of high standards performance, curiosity and continuous learning, continuous improvement, knowledge cross-fertilization within and beyond the department. Identify appropriate learning programs for self in line with Business needs and opportunities. Contribute to the database management.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Application & Technical Service, and Customers for the needs in food applications, trouble-shooting, solution development/understanding, and trainings.
  • Work closely with Enzyme suppliers in learning and transforming their new technologies to application solutions that will create value to our client and their customers.
  • Proactively develop the project pipeline in collaboration with the main stakeholders, in line with client’s KPI’s and profitable growth targets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/MS degree in Food Science, Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry, Cereal Chemistry or equivalent experience. Any further education/PhD is a plus.
  • Specialized in enzyme functionalities and their analysis, with focus on bakery/food , and a good understanding of various food applications and food science.
  • Extensive experience (more than 15 years) in enzyme analysis, development, functionalities, and application in bakery/food.
  • Capable to translate the scientific/technical knowledge into profitable business opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of innovation processes and project management, in a multi-functional project environment.
  • Familiar with complex and international environment, within a matrix organization.
  • Customer focused and solution oriented mindset.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and proactive approach.
  • Capable of building trusted relationship with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong team-player skills: build on expertise of others, and able of connecting the dots to drive for success.
