Our client is a multifaceted company with over a quarter of a century history and rich tradition in the food ingredients industry. They are a multi-dimensional manufacturing enterprise dealing in proprietary, value-added food blends and a widely diverse range of ingredients. They are currently seeking a Principal Scientist, Dairy, for their R&D facility in the Midwest.

Reports directly to the Vice President of Technical Services and includes, but is not limited to these accountabilities:

Principal formulator of ingredient functional systems for anticaking agents

Testing developed formulations using analytical techniques such as the Brookfield Powder Flow Tester.

Develop testing procedures as necessary to verify quality is maintained for production material.

Understands the functional characteristics of the ingredients that are used to develop anticaking agents.

Provide technical support for customers, working directly with the sales team, to trouble shoot formulations and processes. Either in the lab or traveling to customer locations.

Stay up to date with developments in the dairy/non-dairy industry and be constantly looking for new ingredient opportunities to differentiate Client’s products from competitors.

Write technical reports describing test results or reviews of quality evaluations.

Work with others within the dairy team, developing unique customer solutions.

Be part of a team of that includes R&D, Quality and Production.

Evaluate, with the QA team, customer complaints.

Plan experimental designs for new product development testing and evaluation.

Develop and patent new technologies.

Identify New Technologies and opportunities for products that differentiate our client from competitors in the marketplace.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

PhD in Food Science

Experience developing formulas for dry dairy blends, such as anticaking agents

Understanding of dairy/non-dairy food systems

Resourceful problem solver who takes the initiative in addressing challenging issues.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently, and as a team member, who is approachable and personable.

Excellent time management skills, adept at managing multiple priorities.

Provides leadership to others in the area of food science

Serves as a mentor to others within the organization
