The Project Engineer will lead the development and execution of manufacturing plant capital projects including scope, schedule, budget, procurement, installation and start-up. The project engineer also provides technical leadership for processing, packaging, utility and facility systems. This position will functionally report to the VP, Engineering & Maintenance but will be based in the North Jackson, OH Production Facility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Engineer on capital projects – Including overall project management of scope development, budget, system design, equipment sizing and selection, schedule, construction, installation, start-up, check-out, and closeout
  • Lead system design development for unit operations which includes improvements to existing equipment using appropriate technical evaluation and involvement
  • Pro-actively lead collaboration with cross-functional partners to develop margin improvement and technical innovation opportunities
  • Conduct and/or manage experiments, trials, and analyses to validate and advance technical opportunities
  • Partner with Procurement to source, obtain quotes, and negotiate per desired specifications (evaluate submissions with team and management for approval)
  • Provide effective communication and documentation of work including technical plans, experimental reports, financial analysis, and management updates.
  • Communicate status and issues regarding project activity on a continual basis
  • Work with R&D and Food Safety/Quality to identify appropriate system requirements
  • Offers engineering support and troubleshooting assistance to the cross functional plant and company teams
  • Provide innovative technical solutions required to meet business objectives with emphasis on productivity
  • Provide support to annual capital planning process, which may include development and management of the capital program for the facility
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new vendors, suppliers, and contractors
  • Ability to travel up to 10 – 20%, depending on project priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering or Technical/Scientific Discipline
  • At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience within a culture of continuous process improvement
  • Proficiency with CAD software for drawing creation and editing
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&ID, layout, equipment and fabrication drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Mass balance process flows and calculations
  • Experience with fluid ingredient, dry ingredient, and package handling within manual and automated systems
  • Experience with 3A (preference for experience in USDA Dairy Sanitary Design Standards)
  • Knowledge of utility (steam, water, air, NH3, etc.) design and impacts on the process
  • Knowledge of electrical and controls systems
  • Experience working with multi trade-based vendors/contractors
  • Experience leading large multi-discipline projects
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement tools and processes
  • Experience in plant operations and industrial environments understanding equipment design and impacts to materials, labor, and work processes
